The Future!

Hello GUPEy folks,

As you may have noticed, a podcast hasn't been up in quite some time. This is because we're re-evaluating the future of the GUPE. We aren't jumping ship or anything, we're simply planning on moving to a different medium. Specifically, video.

Trent and I are filmmakers; we think visually. While many find us pretty entertaining to listen to, the audio-cast format tends to only lend itself to people who are already of note. People like Kevin Smith, Marc Maron, Freddie Wong, etc. The masses like to hear from someone they (I suppose) already trust and know. Trent and I are only of "note" to a few of you. The rest of you may have given us your ear for a few minutes or more, and for that we are quite appreciative.

The point is, we're planning on sticking to our roots. We won't be doing hour-long webcasts or anything, we're just going to be making videos, maybe a few short video podcasts and maybe even a few of our regular ol' aural 'casts. Either way, we're not going anywhere.

Keep in touch, send us emails asking whatever, tweet us (@theGUPE), and we'll still respond post-haste.

I swear to god we don't mean to do this, but this one's another long one. This is what happens when we have three other people in the room offering their opinion too far from the mic for anyone to hear.

Either way, as the title suggests, it's more of a conversation than anything else, so get ready to pretend like you're the person who's sitting at the table listening to everyone else talk because you're not a very chatty person anyway. You will hear some silent parts, but just imagine you can hear what the guy is saying off-mic. This is a very imaginative 'cast!

GUPE #28: The Upgrade

Things'er changin' around here, and they're changin' for the better.

We've got a new microphone, which means our voices are more clear, more concise, and much sexier. It took a trip to Radio Shack to figure out how to hook an XLR mic to a USB port but WE DID IT!

We're also making a conscious effort to keep our 'casts around the 45 minute mark, and not an hour like we've been doing. After a bit of market research, we've discovered that 30 to 45 minutes is the optimum length for a long-scale podcast, so we're gonna stick with it. It'll be a hair lighter on your Hard Drive too.

We get a wee political at the beginning there, and that's unusual for us, so sorry if you don't agree with what we're saying, we're definitely not trying to offend anyone.

Tonight: The boys announce the official end of the war, Apple releases a TON of stuff, and a fantasy trade is made where one was said to never happen. AND WE REVEAL WHO THE STIG IS!

With only a week until the second season of the GUPE begins (Or series 3 for our British viewers), I thought I should take the time out of my really busy schedule to provide a little Summer Review. However like I said I am really busy so I will keep things brief.

MOVIES OF THE SUMMER IN SORT OF ONE WORD (Followed by a brief explanation)
1. Inception. “D-FUCKING-UH!” (Would have made Kubrick go ‘Whoa’)
2. Iron-Man 2. “GOLDENEGGS!” (Improving Sequel, even if it was all set-up)
3. The Other Guys. “HILARIOUS!” (Makes Cop-Out look like shit, and it already was)
4. Get Him to the Greek. “DIDDYDIDIT!” (Solid comedy about the RocknRoll lifestyle)
5. The A-Team. “CHEESYASHELL!” (Entertaining when it didn’t try so hard to… entertain)
6. Grown Ups. “FAIL.” (The cast was hilarious… before they made this movie)
7. Predators. “DISAPPOINTING” (‘So close. Yet, so far away.’ Imagine if they made that into a film)
8. Macgruber. “MACGRUBER!” (Love any comedy the goes for it in every scene. A diamond in the rough)

That’s it really. I didn’t go to any others because… well they all looked kinda shitty. Sadly though, you will receive this before I have a chance to see Scott Pilgrim VS. The World or The Expendables. Not to worry Those will be saved for our first Podcast starting Next Week. (Kenny is so excited, I swear he gets a Podcast-Boner sometimes)

New Site, New Features, Sucker Punch.

Hey there everybody!

So as you can see, the site's been jazzed up a bit. I might actually just stick with this one instead of changing it every season, I really do like it. That is, of course, unless I find one that's waaaaay cooler, in which case I'll switch it to that. What if it has more FEATURES or something!?

Speaking of which, you'll notice some links and whatnot around here. To your right you've got the good ol' Facebook fan box, in which you click the "like" button and show all your friends how rad you are.

Just under that we've got the Stumbleupon, Twitter, and Digg buttons/counters, in which you click to, uh... Stumble, Tweet, or Digg it. Pretty self-explanatory there.
If you don't have Stumbleupon, I really suggest you get it (clicking the link will give you a sign-up option if you don't have it). Basically it puts a button on your toolbar that takes you to a random page on the internet based on your interests. If you like it, you click thumbs up, if not, thumbs down. Pretty simple, but infinitely awesome.

And just under each post you'll see a nice long bar with just about every sharing site you could possibly think of:
Twitter, Facebook, Buzz, Del.icio.us, Digg, Reddit, Linkedin, Blogger, Stumbleupon, Google Reader, Google Bookmarks and Good ol' email. How's THAT for social media?

Thinking with PORTALS

Hello gamers (and non-gamers alike),

Portal (winner of more than 70 Game of the Year awards) is being made available for FREE until May 24th! All you have to do is click right here and download it.

If you have Steam already, it'll just download it in there like normal. If you don't have Steam, just download it, it's also free. Steam is a launch platform for VALVe games and non-VALVe games alike, and also acts as a community portal so you can see what your friends are playing, invite them into whatever you're playing etc.

They're doing this because they've just released Steam for mac, so regardless of what system you're working with, you can play!

Portal was, and still is, one of my absolute favorite games out there, and I recommend you all give it a shot. Ladies, gentleman or otherwise, I guarantee you'll like the game, it's a bunch of fun. For a low-down on what the game's about, you can watch the video here.

That's right, The GUPE is back for a new season of informational entertainment, and we've come back with a vengeance. We've tightened up our 'casting, made it sexier, more focused, and (what we think is) generally better. We still ramble a bit, but at least it's all on topic now. We've decided to stick to our strong suits, so here's how our 'casts are gonna go now:

GUPE #3: Drunkcast

Well... we recorded one podcast and reviewed six beers and then Trent's computer died, which deleted the entire hour and 15 minutes we had recorded, so we had to do it all over which means this 'cast is full of drunk. We went and reviewed the Sam Adams Harvest Pack again, but we can't guarantee that the podcast contains everything we wanted it to. Oh well. That's what happens when you drink a lot of beer. Deal with it. Sorry it's long, but it's all gold. You'll love it I swear. I've also realized that if you've been downloading the podcasts, they're all labeled #1... my bad. I'll fix that next time, starting with #4. Oops.
